PERSONAL STATEMENT

Daisy Munsanje is the CEO and founder of Bowa Matala Co. and a high school teacher of Business Studies. I stand at the intersection of education, enterprise, and environmental stewardship. For years, I have nurtured life—both in the classroom as a teacher and in my poultry houses as an agricultural entrepreneur. However, with a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a deep-seated commitment to sustainability, I recognize that the future of agriculture lies in circular economies.

Out of necessity and vision, I am pivoting from poultry farming to mushroom cultivation. I am very caution about human activities and their impacts on the environment. Poultry farming contributes to emissions like ammonia and methane from manure. As much as I was benefiting from poultry farming, its effects on the environment always lingered at the back of my mind. Currently, I am transforming agricultural wastes mainly cotton seed hulls, maize stalks, soya beans straw, sunflower husks, and sawdust into high-value protein that supports growth of mushrooms, thereby reducing environmental burden and supporting a circular economy and preserve Zambia’s fragile ecosystem. in due course, wish to empower the women and youths in my community through agri-business knowledge and skills (precisely in mushroom production).

EDUCATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

My career as a teacher has honed my ability to transfer knowledge—a skill critical for training out-growers and extension workers. My academic credentials provide the scaffolding for a resilient, scalable business. The knowledge, techniques and skills acquired at a higher education level, that is MBA (Master’s in Business Administration) Equips me with high-level strategic planning, financial modelling, risk management, and supply chain optimization skills. My Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies with Education allows me to create practical, accessible training modules for the community. Another critical asset I possess is a Professional Diploma in Project Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E): This training enhanced my project management capability in poultry and I continue utilize the M&E frameworks to track production yields, mortality rates, market penetration, and socio-economic impact. I set Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure how many households are lifted above the poverty line in the community, ensuring accountability to stakeholders and donors.

THE KNOWLEDGE & INTEGRATION OF SKILLS

While I possess the business acumen to scale an enterprise, I acknowledge that my journey would be incomplete without professional technical training in mushroom cultivation. I am sincerely grateful for the generosity of the Dutch people who funded both my Oyster mushroom project and training that equipped me with the right mushroom cultivation techniques.
Bowa Matala Co. is not merely a business; it is a prototype for sustainable agriculture in Kabwe. By combining my rigorous background in business, project management, and education with a deep desire for environmental conservation, I am uniquely positioned to lead this venture. I am seeking partners, and financiers who believe in the power of mushrooms to heal the soil, feed the nation, and create dignified work for the people of Central Province. I am ready to learn, lead, and harvest a sustainable future.
